Let's Get Organized!

My students need 150 planners to keep track of assignments and due dates and to help them become organized and responsible young adults.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Academics, sports, work, social life, family responsibilities -- the life of a high school student often feels like you're being pulled in a thousand different directions. Without a place to keep track of everything, students can easily feel overwhelmed and/or fall behind.

My students are a group of very sweet but busy (and sometimes scatterbrained) students.

I have three 10th grade English classes, one senior Homeroom class, and one Leadership class. The school is a relatively new public school, located in an area that would be considered the "inner city"; violence is rampant and most students have either lost someone or something due to gang activity. I have a mother of a two-year-old, a few students with probation officers, and a few more who often miss school because they have to work to help support their families (to give you an idea of some of the things they are going through outside of school, which would explain why it is difficult for them to even care about staying organized!) I also have some of the most involved students on campus -- the Leadership class plans and runs most of the student activities. The two main ethnic groups represented at our school are African American (12%) and Hispanic or Latino (88%).

My Project

With these planners, students will be able to feel more in control of their lives. It will also help them to become more responsible and organized. In the absence of student planners, most teachers have provided students with a way of keeping track of assignments for their own classes. The problem with this, however, is that students end up with up to six different assignment sheets, sometimes having to adapt to multiple ways of recording assignments, according to the preferences of their teachers. These planners will condense all that paperwork into one notebook. Also, students will take ownership in organizing their schedules, which will help them become more responsible, more efficient, and ultimately, more successful. It will also prepare them for success in college (where they will no longer have teachers constantly reminding them of due dates and guiding them through every little thing!)

Your donation will make a difference by 1) helping my students stay sane and in control during this exciting but chaotic period of their lives; 2) help me stay sane, because they will be turning in more homework; 3) making my students into responsible, organized young adults.

It has often been said that time management plays a key role in a person's ability to be successful in school and the workplace, and having a planner will greatly increase my students' ability to manage their time.
