My Students

My 2nd graders LOVE to read. They are beginning readers with a thirst for all kinds of good literature. I want to give them all of the opportunities I can to read books from all kinds of sources. In order to do this, we need more nonfiction books in our classroom.

We are a large school in one of the fastest growing areas of the south.

Students at our school come to school ready and eager to learn. My students this year are especially avid readers. In order to continue meeting the academic needs of my students, I must incorporate diverse trade books into their reading curriculum. Historical fiction is one area that students get the least exposure to. I would love to foster their love of this kind of literature.

My Project

Providing rich literature promotes greater reading achievement, increased reading fluency, and more diverse reading experiences. Comprehension is enhanced by reflection and social interaction, therefore students will be provided multiple opportunities to respond to reading and interact with their peers. By reading historical fiction, history comes to life. They are able to be a part of the story and get a better understanding of what motivated people in our country.
