Ms. McMahon from Philadelphia PA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 30 copies of "Maniac Magee" to become avid readers, and 1 copy of the audio so my less avid readers can listen while they follow along in the book.

Most adults have a book that they will never forget, a story that changed their lives and made them love reading. My students have not had that experience. It is our goal that by the end of the year I have a class of reading maniacs!
My students are in a very low income urban environment.
100% of my students cannot read on grade level and more than half of them are more than 2 years behind. These students attend a public charter school, and while we have some resources, good reading materials are not one of them. My students want to be good children, they want to succeed and do well, but without the ability to read I fear they will not get very far.
Our goal is to become reading maniacs! Through a variety of reading methods (shared, guided and hopefully some independent) I want to encourage my students to love reading. I would like to have copies of Maniac Magee to use in the classroom with my students and a audiocopy for those students that need to be engaged in a different way. It is my hope that enjoying reading will inspire them to work hard to become better readers. I also hope to inspire my students to become writers and share their stories with the world!
Everyone visiting this site can read.
You've all read our story. Most of my students do not share that same luxury. Please help us by donating books that we will love to read, and through that love of reading we will want to learn to read better. Please, help me open the door of success to my students by helping them become avid readers.
