My students are in a very low income urban environment. 100% of my students cannot read on grade level and more than half of them are more than 2 years behind. These students attend a public charter school, and while we have some resources, good reading materials are not one of them. My students want to be good children, they want to succeed and do well, but without the ability to read I fear they will not get very far.
