My Students

Do you remember playing board games with your friends and siblings when you were a child? Family time is a dying trend, not only in the U.S., but in the community in which my students live. My students want to bring back family time to their community, by hosting a Family Game Night.

My AVID students are from a rural town in California.

They are not exposed to a diverse environment, nor are they exposed to the vast opportunities that this country offers, being that the two biggest industries in the town are the school district and the fields. Our school is a performance improvement school, and majority of our students are on free and reduced lunch, and many of them are children of field workers. Due to their parents work schedule most of our students do not experience quality family time, and spend most of their time at school hanging out with teachers after the school day is over. There are limited after school activities and events for our students to become involved in.

My Project

My AVID students feel that their community will benefit from having a time and a place where families can come together an enjoy each others company. Not only will my students be instrumental in helping families restore their bond, but they will be giving back by hosting the "Family Game Night" and the events that take place, as well as learn leadership skills, and how to host a school community service event. They would love for this to be an ongoing community service event that can be passed down to next AVID class and become a school tradition.

If you donate to this project you will help my students become advocates for change.

My students will benefit from learning how to host a community service event as well as how to better serve their community. The success of this particular project will open their minds to bigger and better community service events, allowing them to be the change they want to see in the world as encouraged by Mahatma Gandhi. Also any donation to this project will greatly encourage family bonding time.
