My Students

We are a 1st grade class that follows the "Reading First" protocol. Using these methods the kids make great learning leaps. However, the kids are required to stay in the same part of the literacy block for up to 30 minutes with just a few movement activities.

Our classroom has twenty-two boys and girls.

Four of our students are ELL students and six of our students are not working at a proficient reading level. Several of the kids seem to have difficulty focusing on the lesson being taught and especially maintaining that focus throughout the lesson.

My Project

Having the ability to sit and bounce and have some ease of movement on the requested chair balls will allow the kids to move without adding to the noise level of the room. Being able to bounce will help them focus on what they need to be learning instead of fighting the need to be moving.

We sit and work together for about 3 1/2 hours each day.

During the rest of the schoolday they are at workstations, recess, lunch, or activity class. Being able to move without bothering neighbors or interrupting the learning of others will make school more enjoyable to all. Thank you!
