My Students

Younger students learn best through interaction and socialization. Technology provides my students the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned through a different medium. Interactive reading and language arts activities will allow my students to practice these skills in a different way.

My classroom is comprised of 20 second-graders.

Five of those students are in Special Education (two are autistic, two are significantly developmentally delayed, and one has an emotional behavioral disorder). I also have two students who are in the Gifted program and four students who receive extra assistance in reading and math through the Early Intervention Program. In addition to those services, there are several students who also receive Speech interventions for language and articulation. My school is a Title 1 school with 70% of the students on free or reduced lunch. Many of the families are lower middle class to poor. It is often difficult for these families to obtain the materials they need to assist their children at home. I try to provide my students with every opportunity to achieve greatness and successful academic gains. They learn best through interaction as well as socialization. Without talking about it and doing it, the learning becomes more difficult.

My Project

I am requesting the following CD-ROM titles, Language Test-Taking Strategies, Reading Comprehension Games Library, Tic-Tac-Toe Reading Games, and Fiction & Nonfiction Comprehension activities. These interactive reading and language arts games will be used through the computer and the Smart Board. My students need more experience and practice with all language arts, reading (non-fiction especially), and vocabulary skills. Through these interactive activities, my students will be able to apply their knowledge in the areas of comprehension, main idea, summarizing, verb tense, sentence structure, etc. These interactive activities will provide immediate results so my students will be able to monitor their own learning as they develop stronger language arts and reading skills.

This is important to me and my students because we are striving for excellence in all we do.

Technology and interaction is a big part of our learning experience. Help us become stronger readers and writers!
