My Students

Seventy five percent of my class is more than a year behind grade level in reading. I want to motivate them to read by providing them with Nooks!

I teach at a school that is 95% poverty.

We have plenty of books in our classroom, but many have been there as long as I have. (13 years) I need to find a new way to catch my classes' interest in reading. My school already lacks in modern updates. (I still have chalkboards) I would love to introduce the Nook in my room. They have unlimited kids' books, kids sports magazines, and other reading material that would interest my kids.

My Project

My students do not like to read. It is a daily struggle to find materials that are in their level and that they find interesting. I know that they love technology, even though they come from homes that cannot afford computers and the up to date electronics. I know I could inspire kids to read if we had some class Nooks. They contain thousands of kid friendly books. I would love a Nook for each student, but will start with two and watch reading enthusiasm grow.

My kids don't get many extras in their life.

Our inner city school doesn't get the luxury items like the suburban schools. I know something so simple would be so exciting for them. We need any extra we can get to help improve our reading scores!
