My Students

In a time where childhood obesity is on the rise, the challenge for Physical Education teachers is not only time but providing as much information we can so our students can make informed decisions about how to live a healthier life.

My students attend a public school in Washington and love Physical Education class.

They currently receive 90 minutes of P.E. a week and I try to make it as exciting and interesting for them. They are excited about learning and are always up for a new challenge and going outside of their comfort zone in order to meet those new challenges.

My Project

Currently I do a variety of fitness activities in my Physical Education classes and many times I want the students to find their heart rate. This is a difficult task for some adults let alone children. By having these heart rate monitors, they will be able to measure their heart rate immediately after their activity and determine what type of activity it was and whether they reach their target heart rate.

A heart rate monitor is a tool that will give elementary aged students a better understanding of the different types of heart rates we use when exercising.

In order to help children make healthier choices, they need to understand how their body works.
