My Students

We cannot expect students to be globally competitive if we fail to implement 21st Century Skills and technology into the classroom.

My students are at an even greater disadvantage than most, as they have a special need, and are enrolled in a school district that has limited access to cutting edge technology.

Much of the technology in our district is often reserved for high performing students, or magnet schools with a focus on technology. Special needs students need all the "bells and whistles" in instruction we can provide them with. My students learn best when material is presented in such a way that considers all of the various learning styles. This is why an Interactive Whiteboard and student friendly news magazines would benefit the students in my class.

My Project

Interactive Whiteboards assist students in learning new information using a multi-sensory approach. It is a differentiated learning tool in that students who learn best using a hands-on approach, can achieve this by manipulating text and objects on an enlarged monitor. It also serves as an instructional tool in that teachers can access real-time video, news and connect to classrooms around the world. All at the touch of a single click! In addition the weekly news magazines would provide additional support in students exposure to informational text.

An Interactive Whiteboard and student friendly news magazines will be of great benefit to the special needs students in the Newark Public School District.

Its use will greatly increase these students interaction with the world outside of the city limits.
