Kinder Kritters Count It Out

My Students

Many students have difficulty with one to one correspondence and recognizing the numeral that represents a set. These manipulatives can give the students a hands on way to connect learning in a fun way.

The students in my class come from a diverse community.

Our school is a Title One school which means that at least 50% of the students are from families who receive free or reduced lunch. Our school system is like most in the fact that budget constraints have meant that new items cannot be purchased as any extra money must go to teacher salaries, building operation cost etc.

My Project

The items that I am requesting, counting boxes, will help my students with counting to 10 using manipulatives which will allow students to develop knowledge of: • One-to-one correspondence • Relationship between numbers/quantities • Comparing sets to identify those that are more or less than the other. These skills are the beginning of all math skills. In today's increasingly competitive world, math knowledge is essential. Meeting the needs of young learners by providing hands on manipulatives will start these children on the path of mathematical learning.

The materials that I am requesting will provide students a concrete way to learn numerals.

By using these materials, I will be able to grab the attention of reluctant learners and will provide a way to offer a variety of learning experiences related to counting and number recognition.
