My Students

We are ready for 21st century learning in our class. The world is constantly changing, and it is changing faster than students and teachers can keep up! With the purchase of these color Nooks, students will be entering the new world of reading that awaits them.

My students are excellent!

I get a wide variation of students from those in poverty to middle class. I have a wide array of parental support as well. For some of my students, the learning begins and ends with their school day. For others, parents work with them continuously even after school hours and on into the summer. The need for varied instruction in my classroom is high. I need to find new and motivating ways for students to develop a love of reading, and for those that already have that love, continue to increase it with new and challenging texts. The motivation of using a Nook color eReader in class is enormous. Especially when I find myself trying to keep their focus off of the F-5 tornado that ravaged our town only a few months ago and refocus their thoughts on the importance of being a good reader. This method of technology not only serves as a gateway to 21st century learning, but also would be a high competitor with the video games my students are so into.

My Project

These Nook eReaders will change my students' lives for the better because they will be learning new ways of reading books while using technology. This is the way the world is going, and I want my students to be prepared to go with it. I can think of very few students in my class that would have access to this type of technology outside of school. If we don't provide these items for students to use, then they will never have the chance to fully understand the benefits of this type of technology. To be able to instantly download a book that they have heard about from television or a friend would be magical for my students. A lot of students would be amazed to have this power at their fingertips.

The impact of this project serves many purposes.

Not only will students be able to instantly download just right books for themselves, but they will have the experience of using modern technology to read a book the 21st century way. They are our future, and if we don't give them the tools to successfully prepare for the future, then we have done them a great disservice.
