Mr. Marshall from Henderson NC is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 30 headphones to use for computer related math activities by the start of the new school year.

As Thomas Carlyle so eloquently put, "Silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves together." My students apply this quote to their everyday classwork, with respectful and model behavior for their fellow classmates.
Technology is constantly evolving.
In no subject is this more prevalent than mathematics. Mathematics has grown considerably over the past few years as well as the tools to aid students in math, primarily with the use of interactive games designed for the computer and Internet. While these games provide a visually stimulating and interactive atmosphere for students, they can be loud and may distract others from completing non computer related schoolwork. For that reason, headphones for those computers would allow all students to complete their work in a calm, respectful environment. I teach in a college prep school in rural North Carolina that serves those who are traditionally under-served and marginalized in education with over 90 percent qualifying for the free - and reduced-meal program. My 4th grade mathematics students are well aware of the fact that a strong background in mathematics will provide them with opportunities to find their own pathway to college.
The basic headphones you will help to provide my students will give them the experience they need with utilizing technology within the content. A large part of success in upper level mathematics is comfort with and competency around number sense and the relationship between operations. While my students are learning and developing these necessary competencies in fourth grade through class instruction and the aforementioned computer games, they do not have computer headphones which would allow all students to complete their work quietly. Students will always have access to the technology around them. However, it is up to the teacher to make sure that students utilize this technology in the best way. In a way that makes them smarter, more capable learners. Blending technology with mathematics unleashes endless opportunities for student success. Your donation can help my students become stronger mathematicians and scholars.
This project is important because it will allow my students to work quietly and appropriately on computers and at their desks during guided, and independent work periods.
My students need 30 computer headphones in order to help them become successful mathematicians and prepared for the end of grade test.
