Technology is constantly evolving. In no subject is this more prevalent than mathematics. Mathematics has grown considerably over the past few years as well as the tools to aid students in math, primarily with the use of interactive games designed for the computer and Internet. While these games provide a visually stimulating and interactive atmosphere for students, they can be loud and may distract others from completing non computer related schoolwork. For that reason, headphones for those computers would allow all students to complete their work in a calm, respectful environment. I teach in a college prep school in rural North Carolina that serves those who are traditionally under-served and marginalized in education with over 90 percent qualifying for the free - and reduced-meal program. My 4th grade mathematics students are well aware of the fact that a strong background in mathematics will provide them with opportunities to find their own pathway to college.
