My Students

Have you ever sat down with a student who was struggling with basic mathematical operations such as multiplication, division, and working with negative numbers? My students are continuously hung up on the basic mathematical operations that we struggle with grasping the on level concepts.

My students are a group of 120 sweet, kind, and adventuresome eighth graders who want nothing more than to be successful in all that they do.

Many of them come to school each day yearning to learn more about the world around them. We are in a small school in rural Texas where many of my students spend about 2 hours of their day on a school bus to just get to and from school. The families that my students come from are not able to afford these calculators as a "school supply" as many of us did when we were in school and therefore it is crucial that we find alternate sources.

My Project

As a donor to this project, you would be helping my students become more fluent in not only their basic skills of math but also the higher level learning that occurs in Pre-Algebra and beyond. Your donation would be an integral part in my students being successful in their learning for mastery of our curriculum and our state objectives and preparing them for high school and beyond. Having 15 more scientific calculators in my classroom will allow us to complete a set that was pieced together this year. Each of my students takes pride in using technology and having their own calculator to use in class and a Viewscreen would be a key factor in some of our learning. Your donation will allow them to take more of an ownership of their learning through using technology they haven't experienced before.

As a teacher who grew up being able to use a scientific calculator in my classroom, I know how important it was to my learning then and now.

Your donation will impact the lives of not only the 120 students that I have each year (and the many after that) but their parents as well. Many of my students go home and teach their parents as well. Impacting today's youth impacts tomorrow's leaders.
