This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Today's classroom is much different than before. Not having a graphing calculator is equivalent to not having a ruler in yesterday's classroom of long ago. Some students cannot afford these expensive calculators and therefore they get behind other students. My calculators need replacing.

The students that attend my school are a majority of middle to low class students.

They are very bright students and try to work hard but, without the necessary equipment, they are unable to fully comprehend the full extent of the lessons I teach. They are full of character and are ready to learn but under our strict constraints, it is hard for them to follow along with me, therefore sometimes they lose focus and grades drop.

My Project

Having graphing calculators will significantly increase the focus of many students. They will be able to follow the lessons and be able to understand clearly. Grades will increase, and test scores will rise. Students will, perhaps, come to like math better; knowing how to do it will increase the chances of participating in class. The activities that will be given would be group activities and small activities with me. We will graph lines,parabolas, hyperbolas, etc. in the algebra courses, and will be able to do real life statistics, such as hypothesis tests and confidence intervals for the more advanced. The curriculum we must teach them requires the use of these calculators. The students will greatly learn how to participate in class, give answers and follow along with me. Most importantly, they will be able to use the type of technology they may use in their career someday.

This request will make a difference in my students careers and therefore in their lives.

The calculators that are supplied barely work and sometimes are completely unusable. Students who have their own follow along but the others are left behind. After a few days of not being able to fully comprehend the lesson, the students lose interest and get behind. In the end, it keeps them from being successful. Achievement is of top priority, but without proper calculators it is nearly impossible.
