My Students

My children are 8th graders who are challenged by any number of factors. Most read below grade level, and this book would be hugely transformative in getting my kids excited about reading.

My kids are from North Tulsa and are almost entirely below the poverty line.

Almost 100% of my students qualify for free lunch. Gang issues abound. Many read well below their grade level. They come to school with few supplies and resources. Despite this my students have come so far this year, and I want to be able to provide interesting texts for them to engage in and connect with.

My Project

A "Child Called It" is a powerful book about hardship and ultimate triumph. In hearing the stories of many of my students, I believe this book is one that my kids will respond to and truly love. If I can introduce books that turn my kids on to reading, I will have set them up to be more successful in high school. I need 30 copies of this book.

To get these materials would be extraordinarily meaningful to my students.

To have their own copy of this book to highlight in and take notes will truly set them up to be successful in the coming years!
