My Students

Like most typical teenagers, my students long for friends, acceptance, and independence. Autism presents a formidable barrier in their efforts to achieve their desires.

My students are a wonderful group of young adults from ages 14 to 22.

There are twenty students, all with unique personalities and talents. They love technology and enjoy computers. They are members of the Best Buddies club. They attend a regular high school with over 2,000 students. My students run a micro-enterprise business serving coffee and cocoa to students and staff. This has helped to increase their job and communication skills. These students love to give their best!

My Project

Our students love technology and display a talent for using it. They love pictures and enjoy sharing them with the friends they make in the Best Buddies club. The digital frame will provide a wonderful way to display and share their pictures with their buddies. The pictures will inspire communication with visitors, invoke happy memories, and spark story telling/writing activities. Our students need to see and study appropriate social skills in action. The camcorder will let us create video models that meet our students' specific needs. We'll also record class trips and activities. By watching themselves, students will develop self awareness. Videos will help them remember and retell stories about their adventures! A photo printer will give our students the opportunity to share pictures with friends and family and see their work "published." A photo printer would also help with the many visual aides, social stories, and picture directions we create to support our students.

Young adults with autism face an uphill battle.

They sincerely want to succeed and be accepted by their peers! Please make a difference for my students and help them develop the skills they need to "grow" the friendships that will impact their lives forever!
