My Students

What captures your attention more, color or black and white? My students are learning about graphic design, but can only print in black & white due to the cost of the toner. The "up to 1000" copies claim for the toner is quite misleading. Four $63 cartridges are required for about 250 pages.

My students live in far east Texas in an economically depressed area.

However, they don't let their financial standing get the best of them. Our students are outstanding in sports (Back to back football state championships) AND we are a recognized high school in a Recognized district this year. We have a high percentage of students from homes that have little to no history of education after high school. The classes I teach show students that they can go to a technical school OR college after high school and be trained for a 21st century job.

My Project

Being able to print their designs in color will encourage students to a higher standard. If we push our students toward excellence but only provide mediocre equipment, our encouragement is minimized. Printing in color will allow students to put together their own magazines and see what they would look like as a published document.

Sometimes students need to see their ideas in their hands in order to know that they can translate them from merely an idea to reality.

Having toner for our color printer will enable students to achieve that reality.
