My Students

My students are not given access to technology in the classroom. There are two computer labs in the school and those have classes in them all day.

My students are from a rural community.

Ninety percent of them are on free/reduced lunches. They are wonderful young people, with tough roads ahead. They attend public school. They have much school pride in sports, as the school has won numerous state championships. They are also proud of their academics and in recent years our school has become a tough competitor in academic meets and interscholastic meets. School pride is at an all time high. As a teacher it is a joy to see.

My Project

My students will be able to finally have some access, even though limited, to a computer in the classroom. Every month we do a science in the news assignment and the students that do not have computers at home, which is the majority, have a tough time finding an opportunity to complete the assignment. My students will learn to use the Internet for meaningful research with my help. As it is now, they have to leave my classroom and go to one of the computer labs in hopes that the other class might have an empty computer for the day.

My project is important because it will allow for my students to have access to technology.

In this age it is important for students to have access to technology. It will help relieve the stress of not having enough computers. It will allow students without computers at home to do their Internet based assignments and research at school.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
