My Students

Do you remember playing with your young child or grandchild? Remember the look on that child's face when a new toy was presented to them? My students with Autism become very interested in new toys that could help stimulate their learning through the simplicity of play.

Several of my new students are Kindergarten age.

They require hands-on activities to make learning meaningful to them. Children with Autism need language experiences and one of the most important ways to build that skill is through play. I have a whole area in my classroom that is devoted to play for my students. It is an important part of our day to have the children interact with toys.

My Project

The items I am requesting will allow my students to learn through playing. By working on simple concepts during play with bean bags, shape sorters, lacing beads, and puzzles, students with Autism can build their communication and social skills. Students will learn language skills and be able to communicate their wants through opportunities to play with the toys.

I greatly appreciate your interest in this project for my classroom.

These children are very special to the adults who work with them in the classroom and to their own parents. By starting at the foundation of learning through play, maybe we can begin to open doors for these young learners through play.
