Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

On the first day of school, some of my fifth graders are taller than I am... you can imagine how tall they are by June and how uncomfortable it can be for some of them to sit at their desks all day. The rug will allow them to sit and read on the floor of our classroom.

My students are amazing.

When they learn something new or have a "light bulb" moment, we, they and I are thrilled. They work so well together and are eager to help each other whenever necessary. My classroom is both print rich and conversation savvy. Since there is a sense of community in our classroom, all students feel comfortable expressing themselves and sharing their thoughts and opinions.

My Project

Unfortunately my classroom is not the best looking room our district. Now do not be fooled - my students come into a colorful and welcoming classroom in September, but the reality of it is our school had an addition last year and those rooms are beautiful. My room has had ceiling leaks, plaster falling out from the walls, and just does not compare. This rug being placed in the center of my classroom would not only make my room more welcoming, but would show the students that they too can have new and beautiful things. This rug will be beneficial to them because they will be able to lay on it and read or sit on it with a partner and discuss current events.

Please help my students feel important and help spruce up my classroom with this vivid design.

From week one my students learn the states and capitals and they spend weeks researching a state of their choice -this rug will serve as a constant reminder for them to know there is a lot of world out there for them to see!
