My Students

"A picture is worth a thousand words" and when students can add pictures they create or special pictures they find to their power point projects it makes them more proud, conscientious and invested in their projects.

My students are 5th graders in a small rural and economically challenged area of Georgia.

The majority of my students only have access to common technology, like computers, in the classroom setting. The more technological tools I can introduce them to and teach them how to use in a variety of ways, the better prepared they will be as they advance through their educational careers and later into the work force.

My Project

Having a scanner will allow my students to add their own personal art work or include their own photographs in a Power Point project rather than relying only on basic clip art, which may or may not represent and enhance their projects. Remember how rewarding it was when your finished project matched your vision of the project? That is the feeling I want my students to have because the more success they encounter in their work, the more dedicated to doing their best they will be.

The scanner will not only help my students enhance projects but it will also allow me to help my students improve their writing skills.

Being able to scan a variety of writing examples for the students to see and critique will help them to recognize errors in their own work and show them ways to improve their own written forms of communication. This is a skill that is mandatory in today's society. A scanner will be a valuable teaching aide in my classroom.
