My Students

"Here is my secret. It is very simple: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." In order to teach literary concepts such as setting, plot, and symbolism, I plan to use this very short, very inspiring work to begin my school year.

My students are from a variety of backgrounds.

They are a mixture of students who live on a military base and students who live on government assistance. Forty percent of my students' parents do not have a high school diploma. I work hard to engage and inspire my students!

My Project

Students will read these books in a workshop setting; they will create their own planet for the little prince to visit, emphasizing setting. Students will learn academic content standards relating to symbolism, plot development, and characterization.

My district cannot afford new resources.

Without new reading materials, students' interests are not met, and they are not exposed to the classics. I feel it is extremely important to build life-long readers and writers.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
