My Students

Kindergarten is a brand new world! During the course of a year students grow with the help of exciting activities like circle time and read aloud. A listening center is a magical place where students can work in a small group, without the teacher, to enjoy oral language and storytelling at its best!

Our Kindergarten program is changing!

We will be launching a Full-Day Kindergarten program in our school, which is in a small Maine town. Some students have attended day care or Preschool programs, many have not. The day is long and we will be busy working hard and practicing many new skills!

My Project

When I greet my Kindergarten students, they will be invited into a literacy-rich environment. We will enjoy circle time, read aloud, and visit literacy stations. These stations are designed to be engaging and fun, while allowing independent practice of new skills taught in a whole group setting. I have requested a Mobile Listening Center to house a CD player, two separate Read-Along kits with books and a CD, and 4 student-sized headphone sets. This "Listening Center" will allow four students to enjoy quality children's literature during a station rotation. Students will learn how to handle a book, and its accompanying CD, and act out the story with props. Kindergarteners will work together in this small group while the teacher is reading and working with students at another station. This will foster independence and help to create a love of learning.
