My Students

I can still remember the huge blue alphabet rug in my kindergarten classroom. It was the cornerstone of the room, the place where we would meet, bond and grow together. My students do not have this experience in my room, as of now they sit on the hard bare carpet. Ouch!

I teach in a largely economically disadvantaged school.

A large population of our students come from homes in which expectations are minimal but my expectations are huge! I have always wanted to create a rich classroom for my students to look forward to coming to and enjoying. A classroom rug is the cornerstone of a classroom. This is the place where memories are made, students grow together as a group and their minds are challenged with those important deeper thinking questions. The previous carpets in my room were ruined during some flooding and consequently a not so rug friendly steam cleaning.

My Project

The rug I have chosen is the perfect subtle colors that are not too distracting, but also allow the students to have their own comfy place to feel belongs to them (and only them!). When students feel comfortable and relaxed there is no limit on what we can achieve.

A rug really could make the difference in having a place to feel comfortable and enjoy our group time....or the place that they dread to come to because it is hard and cold and they just want to get group time over with so they can leave!
