My Students

Many of my second graders are having a difficult time focusing while sitting in their seats. A large number of my students suffer from ADD, ADHD, Autism and other disabilities that impact their learning.

My students are not your typical second graders.

They are a very unique and special group of kids. My students all have at least one parent in the military who is often deployed to various locations. Many of my students have a parent serving overseas in the war. These families are also financially limited and away from their extended families. These outside stress factors really impact the way my second graders function and learn. Our school works closely with the Air Force Base to work as a team and accommodate these families who are under such high stress situations. My students see our classroom as a safe place and momentary refuge from their fears and worries about their parents safety.

My Project

I would like the yoga balls to help my students relax, focus and loose the stress from each day. We will use the yoga balls to learn relaxing exercises and to sit on at our seats. The yoga balls will replace the chairs in my classroom and become an alternative seat that helps posture, focus, and reduces stress in my students. I know the benefits of these yoga balls will impact my current students and be sturdy enough to last for several years. My students will learn ways to help them focus and get the job done even when they are feeling stressed and overwhelmed. They will be able to carry utilize these coping skills for the rest of their lives.

You will make a difference in the lives and education of second graders who are carrying the burden of being military children with parents deployed overseas protecting our country. These yoga balls will help my students diagnosed with disabilities as well as my students that just need a way to cope with daily stress.
