Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember going to the zoo as child, or family road trips which allowed you to engage in new experiences? My students don't have those experiences to draw from. Having an ELMO in my classroom would allow me to show students books and interact with text in ways they usually don't!

My students come from wide variety of backgrounds.

About 50% of our families are considered low - income, second language learners. Our school also provides inclusive classrooms that place Special Education students into a regular education classroom. With the learning challenges most of these students experience they are still energetic, smiling, fun loving kids that enjoy all the discussions and learning experiences they can soak up!

My Project

Students come to the classroom with many forms of background knowledge and many times it is a lack of background knowledge that prevents them from truly understanding the material in class. With an ELMO they can see diagrams of volcano's and how they impact the geology of that area, they can work together and show how to edit writing projects to the whole class. They can project the picture they created showing each other how silly idioms can be!

An ELMO is the greatest way to project ANYTHING to a class!

The second a student has an idea and wants to share it, it can be done! They love the excitement associated with sharing things visually! Capturing their imagination through pictures and through sharing is a wonderful way to help build the vital background knowledge that will help students understand the world they live in and become successful students!
