My Students

What is it like to be in the classroom and need a few extra minutes to think about the answer, but others beat you to it?

I teach 100 mixed ability, 8th grade students.

My students enjoy being engaged in learning and like hands on activities. They like to be challenged and ask great questions. The rural school I teach in is a Title 1 school and consists of students from varying backgrounds and socio-economic status.

My Project

I am requesting wipe off boards to actively engage my students in learning. Each student will have a board, marker, and eraser. This will allow them all to be engaged in activities such as review, bell work, or even brainstorming sessions in small groups. Using the boards is motivation and a different means for students to display what they know and understand about the science concepts being taught. I have used them in the past, but have recently changed school and look forward to the possibility and having a set in my classroom once again. If I ask a question, students write their responses on the boards, and I can quickly see who understands and who does not. This often opens rich conversations that enhance student learning.

This project is important because I want to set my students up for success right at the beginning of the school year.

I want them to know I expect all of them to participate and that I will help them with their motivation and learn concepts.
