My Students

There have been a tremendous amount of earthquakes in the past year. My science students are very curious about this. These globes will help them learn why the earth has been shaking.

I teach seventh and eighth grade science.

We are a high-need, high-poverty school. Our town has a poverty rate of 72%. Our school system does not have the funds available for extra science learning materials, due to the terrible economy. Your support would be a great help.

My Project

The Florida Sunshine State Standards for science requires students to have an understanding of the make up of the earth. Students need to know why earthquakes occur and about the plates of the earth's crust. They are tested about this on the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test. The six Landmass Relief Globes with Cross Section of the Earth will be a very beneficial hands-on tool to study the interior layers of the earth and their characteristics. It can also be used to study earthquakes, and why and how they occur. Plate tectonics can be shown to be the major cause of earthquakes. The globes can also be used to study the earth's atmosphere, which is covered in an entirely different unit during the year. The globes can be written on and marked for study. This is a great model to indirectly study the earth's interior.

The are great tools for visual and hands-on learners, of which we have a lot of. My students and I would greatly appreciate your support for our science class. Thank you.
