My Students

Remember those hard chairs in elementary school that you had sit in for 8 hours a day? Have you been in a meeting where you had to sit for a long period of time? Let's save our children from that same uncomfortable and unengaged fate! Children need to be comfortable in order to maintain engagement.

My class is an active bunch!

They are constantly moving. This third grade class is made up of exactly half boys and girls. There are multiple nationalities represented as well, from Native American, Mexican-American, to Austrian. These chairs are especially beneficial for boys, students with attention concerns, and students with special needs. In which my class has all three.

My Project

As a teacher, I am always reading and researching 'best practices' to grow as a professional, but, more importantly, to search for any new strategies that will help my students learn. Research has been conducted on the ball chairs and the findings are outstanding from students of all ages. They have expressed that they paid attention longer; their enthusiasm for learning was higher during class, which resulted in higher scores. Not to mention, research studies have found the fitness ball chairs have had a positive impact on student’s posture and strengthening back muscles. In addition to the research, the teachers who have used these chair balls personally attest that student motivation and engagement is much higher, causing an increase in student achievement and a reduction in behavior problems.

Donations to this request will make a monumental difference.

The students that will be impacted will benefit in a diverse variety of ways. Their motivation will increase, their grades will increase, their motor skills will increase, their muscles will be strengthened, and their task management skills will increase. I believe teaching is about innovation. If allowing the students to wiggle and move during class work increases my students' love of learning, then I'm not scared of the ball!
