Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I bring ancient China as well as the Civil War to my classes. We have created an Egyptian museum and are competing in a Greek Olympics. My students need flash drives to save the many research projects we do in class. They love to work independently on our computers since they have none at home.

My students are enthusiastic learners who see history come alive in our classroom.

They are from diverse backgrounds but mainly Hispanic. They attend a MS/HS in the Bronx. Our school is a Federal Magnet School with an Applied Global Technology theme. Most live in single parent homes in a high poverty area. The netbook will allow me to create even more creative lessons at home and at school. We need the flash drives for the students to save their research and continue it at a later time. A camcorder will allow us to film the many creative applications we have including "Life inside a pyramid" and original fables and myths which they love to act out. Filming their original work will help it be preserved forever and give the students tremendous pride and ownership. We also want to make a movie about our recent visit to Supreme Court where they met a judge and learned about the court system first hand.

My Project

With the laptop I can create smartboard interactive lessons which will inspire learning. I want each student to be able to create a life time memory by filming and preserving their many interpretations of history. My students will act out the many Greek myths we have studied and will recreate many political debates we have studied. With a flash drive each student can save their work and keep their own file for future use.

The laptop, flash drives and flip will make a difference in my students' lives.

The creative and interactive lessons on the laptop and the many resources I will be able to share as a result are priceless. The flip camcorder will increase student involvement and creativity. The flash drives will help them track their own research and allow them to continue to work on any computer they may encounter in a public library for instance.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
