My Students

Hey, Hey, What's that sound, it's our students' writing going down! Our students need the writing and reading center desperately. The students need a place to store their writing and learn about being organized and responsible.

My students come from very difficult backgrounds.

They attend a charter school in the inner city. Their lives are filled with abuse of all kinds: poverty, hunger, death and many other things we can't imagine. They are trying to come to school to learn on top of all the cards that they were dealt in life.

My Project

The writing center will teach our future generation responsibility. They will be taught how to manage their own space, how it feels to have something that belongs to them. My students will be able to see that writing is organized figuratively and literally. They won't have to store their folders in boxes and crates.

I simply can not do it alone.

I love my students dearly. I am working with limited resources. My resources must be used to buy them clothes, food, and other basic necessities. It takes a community.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
