Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A recent survey of my class showed that only 12 out of 28 students had access to a computer at home. This means that they are unable to use the Internet and word processing products. I would like to be able to give my students the experience of producing a PowerPoint presentation.

We are a 98% poverty school in urban Portland, Oregon.

My students miss out on many experiences that middle class students and their parents take for granted, such as having a computer or word processor. Students are inspired to write more if they can use a laptop for word processing and present via PowerPoint. They will not only learn writing composition skills, but also presentation skills. Many of my students do not speak English as their first language, so writing composition is essential for moving forward with the English language.

My Project

Word processing and PowerPoint presentation is a vivid medium in which my students can practice their English language skills. They will learn valuable skills in the production of PowerPoint presentation and the use of English language. It is very motivating for students to be able to use a laptop to show off what they have learned and then project it onto the screen for a whole class presentation.

Since we have only one other laptop and 3 computers to use for 28 students, this donation will help yet another student be able to finish their PowerPoint project in a timely manner.
