My students need a scanner and white board to "Go Green" in our classroom, as we learn ways to save our planet in our everyday lives.

My Students

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtfully committed citizens can change the world..."Margaret Mead. It is our children that can make these changes in our world. Teaching our children ways to "Go Green" today, will create a safer world for all of us to live in for generations to come.

I teach in a 4th grade classroom in a rural area in NY.

My students are able to get outside and play on a daily basis in an area that is still untouched by a lot of the destruction we have seen to our planet in other parts of the world. They enjoy getting outside and observing the nature around them. Whether it be looking out the window to see a group of deer in our school yard or being able to observe the changes that happen in nature (right outside our window) when our seasons change. They are a wonderful group of students who are so excited about what they can do to make their world a better place to live in.

My Project

The scanner and the white board will be used to "Go Green" in my classroom. My hope, with these materials, is to reduce the amount of papers and overheads that are used in my classroom and to eliminate the notes that are sent home. I will be using the whiteboard during my math lessons, along with my computer and projector to eliminate the number of overheads that I currently use (over 175 a year). I plan to use the scanner to scan all notes, that would normally go home on a daily basis, into the computer for parents to access via my school website. My hope is to share with my students and their families, that if each of us were to choose just one area of our lives to make a change in to "Go Green", the difference it would make as a whole, would be astounding.

This project is so important to me because I have seen, just in my lifetime, the damage that has been done to our planet because we were not educated on the consequences of what we were doing that has actually caused damage to our planet.

As a teacher, I feel it is my job to ensure that our children do understand that what they do now, can have good and/or bad consequences in the future....and I want them to choose the good consequences.
