My Students

Students will "feel the earth move" as they work with these hands-on materials to simulate earthquakes and tectonic plate movement!

Supplemental science materials are sparse in the small rural school where I teach.

Almost one third of the students in my fourth grade class are English Language Learners, and we have a high percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced price meals. Hands-on materials are invaluable in helping students understand complex subjects, and they are especially helpful for English Language Learners to demonstrate abstract concepts.

My Project

The landform demonstration kit will help students visualize the causes and forces that shape the earth's surface as they use models to demonstrate volcanic action, faulting, and folding. The seismograph model replicates an actual seismograph so students can see how earthquake data is measured and recorded. The earth science book provides paper models so that students can actually construct models to visualize different types of landforms.

Science is one of my students' favorite subjects.

Imagine the delight of my students as they construct their own knowledge of earth's landforms and movements by making paper models, building and manipulating landform layers, and recording simulated earthquakes using a model seismograph. You will be sparking the interest of a group of budding geologists!
