My Students

For the past seven years I have been a physical educator trying to fight the pandemic of obbesity in children. It is challenging task especially with all the outside influences such as advertisements for fast food, poor family eating habits, and the lack of physical education time for children.

As part of our freshman curriculum the students at our school are educated on the value of living a healthy lifestyle.

The students learn about training in their target heart rate zone with the use of heart rate monitors, the importance of nutrition, the proper way to train their muscles, and goal setting. One of our goals as a class is to chart our distance from our school to Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. This project will take us to the end of the school year.

My Project

With the use of pedometers the students will have an efficient way for them to calculate how much ground they have covered during an activity. The Project is named Race To The City. Each day the students will be competing against each other to see who can get the most amount of steps with the use of their pedometer. In order for this project to become reality we are asking for some efficient pedometers. We have twenty-five students in our class. The students are passionate and eager to start their journey toward the city of Chicago. With your help the students will start to develop healthy habits for life.

The statistics for overweight Americans is jaw dropping and something needs to be done to combat this issue.

2 out of every 3 Americans are overweight or obese, that’s more than 190 million Americans. There is also a $150 billion annual medical burden of obesity related diseases. As a class we thank you in advance and hope that you can make our project reality. By providing the children with resources and education on how to live a healthy lifestyle is a step in the right direction. With your help my students will be able to accomplish their goals, and you will also be assisting in the fight against obesity.
