My Students

Storytime, calendar, show & tell, center activities, balanced literacy work, manipulative exploration - you name it and we do it on the floor sometime during the day. Kindergarteners love to share but oftentimes impinge on 'personal space' this carpet would help us all have elbow room & learn too!

I teach in a middle-class neighborhood school that has been hit hard with the economy failing apart.

We have a tourist industry base which has fallen flat along with new construction. Free & reduced applications have increased dramatically and there is no money for equipping some basics in the classroom.

My Project

9'x 12' may sound like a good sized piece of material but when you add 19 5-year olds it shrinks quickly! This carpet has delineated sections for everyone to have some elbow room and personal space. The bonus is that there are shapes, colors and letters so that we can play carpet games to accompany language arts and math.

A kindergarten environment should stimulate curiosity, interest and learning.

The environment is more than the walls - we can and do learn everywhere so the flooring should be a resource that we can be comfortable with, observe, explore and incorporate into daily lessons. Please help us have a 'Magic Carpet' in our classroom!
