This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation, and a pinch of creativity,"-Bo Bennett. I live by this quote with my teaching and try as much as possible to have my students feel motivated to want to question and explore the world around them through projects and creative ways of learning.

My students are the most amazing kids.

I teach in an urban school in California. My students have great pride in their school. My classes do a great job of interacting with one another and accepting each others' differences, since we are very culturally diverse. The students have been hit very hard by the budget cuts and really never complain about not having some of the various resources they were used to in the past. They are some of the most humble children I have ever worked with. On a day to day basis, I see these kids blossoming into young adults and it makes me proud that I have a part in shaping them into the fine young adults they are becoming. I am beyond lucky to be their teacher.

My Project

After reading books on inventions, reviewing Power Points, and doing research reports, the students will be able to go out and take pictures of inventions in their community that have had an important impact on us today. For example, after reading about Ancient Rome, a student may go out and take a picture of a road and explain the role the road had in exploration and warfare. Or, after reading about the Reformation, a student may go take a picture of a billboard and explain the power of propaganda like the power Martin Luther had during the Reformation through advertising. We will begin to appreciate the world we live in and understand it a little more. By taking pictures with digital cameras, the students will become more technologically inclined. After doing this project, my students will be more motivated to question the world they live in and ask themselves where things came from and what the historical significance of it may be to us today.

As a Language Arts-Social Studies teacher, I find it very important to make lessons that are cross curricular.

This project will allow students to integrate Language Arts, Social Studies, and technology with the use of digital cameras. I want my students to be able to go out in their community and ask themselves why things have come to be and appreciate how things have evolved over time. My students deserve a creative way of researching the ancient civilizations contributions to us today.
