Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine going to school in another country and trying to learn to speak, read and write in a different language. That is what my enthusiastic second grade English Language Learner students are doing...and getting to be pretty good at it!

My students are recent immigrants to this country and all speak other languages at home.

Their families are eager to help them achieve "the American Dream" but are struggling with learning English and other challenges themselves. The students at my school come from high-poverty homes but are eager to succeed in school and in life!

My Project

Thanks to the generosity of other donors, my class received several WhisperPhones and books on tape. Now we just need to fine tune these projects to make them truly successful in our classroom. WhisperPhones are essentially reading tubes that students wear around their heads as they read. They help students listen to themselves as they read and improve their fluency. We have several WhisperPhones in the class now and they are a huge hit! We need some more so that all students will have the opportunity to increase their reading abilities. Students learning English also benefit from hearing books read aloud on tape (not to mention, it's fun!). We need additional copies of books so that each child at this center can follow along in their own book.

Your donation to this project will help a group of wonderfully hard-working and energetic students become strong readers before moving on to third grade.

Second grade is such an important year for students and your generosity will ensure that students can make the most of it!
