I am a regular education teacher in a second grade in-class resource support room. We are trying to provide a literacy rich environment for ALL students...even those who may not have books to read at home.

It breaks my heart when I check reading logs and hear a student say it wasn't completed because they don't have any books at home. By having a set of take-home packs, every child will be able to take a different pack home throughout the school year and complete various activities to help boost their reading abilities.

Although I try to make sure every child in my class is able to take library books home, there are some students who have not been exposed to quality literature enough to retain what they are learning in class. By having these resources available, those students who have supportive parents at home will have resources to help them achieve greater success. Those who do not have support at home, will still be able to take home quality literature (which they may not be exposed) and complete some of the activities independently. This will also tear them away from the television and video games and stimulate their brains!

Your help will make it possible for every child in my class to have a chance to read at home every day! Without the take-home packs, some students in my class will not have a chance to be exposed to quality literature in their homes.
