I teach visual arts to elementary students, grades Pre-K through 5th grade. Our community is in an area in our county where a majority of our students receive reduce and free lunch. Our area has a high unemployment rate due to industries such as furniture and textiles closing their doors over the last 10 years.

Our school system is working on a very small budget. As an art teacher, I was not permitted to order new supplies for this current school year. Many of my students are not able to visit museums in which they can see art through the ages and connect to time periods they study in school.

Students do not always enjoy core curriculum subjects in the traditional setting. Teaching history through art can make the learning history more interesting. Art prints are expensive. With only one art history book, students can appreciate the works of art through various time periods with the use of the document camera.

As the art teacher,I teach the entire student body. Your contribution to my class will reach well over 400 students who will be able to view history through centuries of artists.
