I teach students in a high poverty, rural high school in Georgia who have stepped up to the plate and enrolled in advanced placement chemistry. These students have overcome numerous obstacles in their lives and have decided that after high school they will further their educations at a college or university. To get ahead of the game, they are enrolled in AP chemistry to receive some college credit before they ever step foot onto campus.

In advanced placement (AP) chemistry, there are required labs that must be completed. These labs must be done as the students are tested over various labs on the AP chemistry exam and they must prove that they have had an appropriate laboratory experience if they want to get college credit for the lab. By passing the AP chemistry exam, the students get credit for the course. The laboratory component is awarded if the student can show a written record of their laboratory experiences. By not having the resources to complete the written record, the students are at a disadvantage in that they cannot acquire the laboratory credit.

In order to help my students receive credit for the laboratory portion of college chemistry, they need HP digital cameras and memory cards to add photographs to their laboratory reports. Many laboratories require visual descriptions. The digital cameras will provide my students the ability to add photographs to their documents. By having this detailed visual record, colleges and universities will be better able to evaluate the students' lab experience and award them the credit that they are working so hard for.

By donating to the acquisition of the Hewlett Packard digital cameras and memory cards, you will enable my students to get a step ahead in continuing their education at a college or university. You will make a significant difference in the lives of my students and let them know that their hard work and determination are not in vain.
