I teach 5th grade. I teach in a school that has a large number of students that I feel need attention.

We were told two years ago that some of the classrooms would be getting Smart Boards but due to the cut in our districts budget we did not get them. I started learning fun ways to teach with a smart board and got very excited about getting one to help me become a better teacher.

While learning ways to use Smart Boards I found that they could help a teacher save lessons to present to students who were absent, use the built in maps to teach continents, oceans, countries, or states and capitals, present presentations created by student or teacher, teach whole group computer or keyboarding skills, brainstorming, take notes directly into PowerPoint presentations,reinforce skills by using on-line interactive web sites, use highlighter tool to highlight nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc., teaching students how to navigate the Internet, illustrate and write a book as a class. Use the record feature to narrate the text, teaching steps to a math problem, and have students share projects during Parent/Teacher/Student conferences. All of this will make my classroom a better place to learn.
