When it comes to teaching materials, you can never have too much stuff!!! But sometimes you run out of places to put it! I am a special education teacher in a high need district of New York. In my inclusion classroom, students with special needs, learn alongside their peers. My fabulous Fourth graders are always eager to learn, I need to find a way to put all of the wonderful materials at their finger tips ! I have been so fortunate to be funded so many times by the generous donors at donorschoose.org. My classroom is bursting (literally!) with resource books that make a huge difference in the way my children learn. We have a class set of children's dictionaries and thesauri. We also have a world atlas and a set of encyclopedias. All of these wonderful books put information at my students fingertips. The problem is, I don't have anywhere to put them! Stacked in my storage closet sit, piles of dictionaries, thesauri and encyclopedias. I take them out frequently to allow the children to use them, however, at the end of the day, they have to go back in the closet, there is no other place to put them. What I would like is to create a resource book center in our room. I want to make a place where all of these wonderful materials can be on display and ready for the children to explore. A large bookcase would neatly display all of our books in a way that would make them accessible to the children all the time. With your help, the wonderful materials I use to make learning come alive everyday can be on display in a way that will encourage the students to use them independently. The wonderful donors at donorschoose.org have already made my classroom a wonderful place to learn, by funding this proposal you will be helping turn my classroom into a place where the possibilities are endless, and easily accessible.
