"Did you save it?" This is the question that I ask my seniors every time they come to me and tell me that they lost their document. The majority of my students respond with a timid, "No. I just thought it would print, and then I deleted it." My school serves an extremely socio-economically diverse group of students, and I teach all of these students. Many of them come from caring and loving homes where education is valued and supported. Many others come from families with no high school graduates. All of my students have a desire to learn...they sometimes just don't have the motivation or support they need. That is where I come in!

In my English classes, whether it's an honors level or core level course, we write ALL the time. We write essays, podcast interview scripts, memos, poems, letters, resumes, etc. You name it, we write it. Unfortunately, many of my students do not have anywhere to save all of the projects they write. Our district has a required end of the year writing portfolio project that every student grades 6-12 must complete. Our district is also moving towards making these portfolios digital. While I have always offered digital portfolios as an option, I can't make it mandatory because my students don't all have access to computers at their homes, nor do they have the materials necessary to save these projects. Their portfolios showcase their growth and creativity as writers, and they LOVE showing themselves off. It's such a worthwhile project. I want them all to create digital portfolios that will be with them for the rest of their lives. They will be able to add to these portfolios as they continue through their educational (and in some cases professional) careers.

My students need flash drives to save their work! If I could provide each of my students with a flash drive, we would be able to save EVERYTHING we do in one location, and all of it would be accessible for our end of the year digital portfolios.

Your help will make it possible for all of my seniors to succeed. It will also prepare them for college and the work place as they create a lasting collections of their memories (both personal and educational)and showcase their growth as readers, writers, and thinkers. With your help, when I ask my students if they saved their work, they will be able to respond by saying, "Absolutely! I'll have it for you in a flash."
