Our Students Shouldn't Be Outsiders

My students need twenty copies of SE Hinton's novel "The Outsiders".

As we move towards the standardized testing in our district I have been assigned the task of moving 20 of our higher readers from a "proficient" level to "advanced". This reading group will consist of 20 sixth graders who will meet with me Monday through Thursday for an hour a week after lunch.

While the students have a fully functional library from which they can select their independent reading texts, classroom sets of novels can be cost prohibitive.

I try to foster a love of reading as much as possible, but this obviously isn't as probably when students must share texts or return them at the end of a period. The class set of "The Outsiders" will allow my students to have their own individual reading book that they can take home and explore on their own time.

Your help will ensure that every student has their own novel from which they can form their relationships with the text and allow them to go from an average reader to an exceptional one.
