My third grade students live in a high-need community with over 55% of the children on free or reduced lunches. The "at-promise" and struggling students in my reading class all read below third grade level.

The three ways to become a better reader are to Read, Read, Read. Therefore, my students desperately need access to reading materials to have those opportunities to read. They need to see the words and be able to hear what each word says to help them read. These books on cassette will allow them to do just that.

I have a cassette player with four headphones. However, I need books on tape that are at a first grade and second grade reading level. I am requesting individual book titles along with a cassette for each one. They were Dinner At the Panda Palace, Little Bear, The Little House, Dr. Desoto Goes to Africa, Through Moon and Stars and Night Skies, and three Curious George individual titles, Frog and Toad All Year, and Days with Frog and Toad. I also ordered a Caldecott Collection so students can learn to read by themselves.

You will make it possible for my struggling readers to hear the words read to them on tape as they follow along in the book. You will help my students build fluency and gain confidence in their reading ability. Students will be able to use these books at the listening station or can read along with the cassette as they view it on the ELMO. These books on cassette and Caldecott books will give them the much needed materials to help them become better readers.
