Mr. C. from LA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need thirteen copies of Cigler and Loomis' "American Politics: Classic and Contemporary Readings".

My classroom is a place where our American government and political system comes to life in text, multimedia, debate, and discussion! I teach two tenth grade Civics and Free Enterprise classes and am also a first-time Advanced Placement teacher, teaching AP United States Government & Politics at a high-need public charter school in Louisiana.
Wouldn't it be great if all my low-income students could earn a "5" on their first AP exam and head off to college in the fall with credits already in hand? By helping me to purchase supplementary readings in American politics, my thirteen AP "newbies" will be exposed to the Federalist Papers, crucial court cases in our nation's history, and thorough critiques of the most-pressing issues facing our country.
My school was kind enough to purchase our primary course text, but given the current economic climate, there is no money in the budget to purchase supplementary reading books for my thirteen AP students. I plan on using these books both in-class as well as allowing students to take the books home to complete homework readings and formulate their thoughts into free-response essay analysis. Once they can thoroughly understand college-level readings, they will be more than prepared to succeed on their AP exam in May.
Your generous assistance will help to foster a whole new generation of civic leaders in Louisiana, one of America's truly unique laboratories for the study of what is both great as well as what is lacking with respect to our democracy.
