Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach second grade in a middle class suburban school in Southern California. We are a special education focus school with many students mainstreamed into regular education.

We are trying to modernize our school technology but money for it is scarce. The children are learning to use computers, how to create Powerpoint presentations and online movies, but do not have a way to display them to a group. An LCD projector would remedy this situation. Many of the schools around us have low income funding to purchase computer equipment, but because our socio-economic situation is in the middle, we don't receive the same funding. We have to find or create funding to give our students opportunities to learn and grow in technology. Visiting students to my classroom called it the "old fashioned classroom" because of our lack of technology.

We would like to have a laptop LCD projector for classroom use. The students are capable in creating reports on the class computer but have difficulty sharing their creations. A LCD projector will allow more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills. Moreover, when I can use technology as a tool to support my students in performing authentic tasks, they are more focused in defining their goals, making decisions, and evaluating their own progress.

Your contribution to this project will make it possible for my students to communicate with others in an active role rather than a passive role. My students will actively make choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information.
